Tutoring Services

QLC Educational Services
is a learning centre which
offers tutorials in reading,
writing, spelling and
arithmetic to children of
all abilities, and adults
of all backgrounds.

QLCQLC Educational Services

In 1979 Michael Maloney founded QLC Educational Services in Belleville, Ontario, Canada. Initially the Centre provided after-school tutorials either to enhance giftedness or to resolve learning difficulties. It continues to produce consistent academic gains for both children and adult learners through the use of three powerful technologies - Direct Instruction, Behaviour Management and Precision Teaching.

It has always been Michael Maloney's philosophy that "if the student didn't learn, the teacher didn't teach." He has made it his personal mission to ensure that every one of his students succeeds. So far he has been an unqualified success.

Our services include:

  • One to One tutoring for all ages
  • After school tutoring for children in elementary and high school (and summer school too!)
  • Daytime tutoring for students who are preparing for college or need help with their reading or math skills (including Pathways students)
  • Reading, spelling and math curriculum for homeschoolers (for parents who to help their children learn at home)
  • On-going training and consulting for educators who use our curriculum

We are committed to helping your child reach his/her academic goals. To prove that point, QLC provides a money back guarantee with its service. Tutoring fees are $40.00 per hour per student (a 25% discount applies to families with a second child).

"TEACH YOUR CHILDREN WELL is a book which sets out THE recipe for education reform by taking us into successful classrooms. Mr. Maloney cites the research and proven teaching strategies of which all tax-payers must become aware".

Why Our Methods Work:

The QLC Learning Model

In order to effectively teach anyone anything, there are a number of conditions which must be met.

THE SIX COMPONENTS OF
THE QLC MODEL

This Model was initially conceived by Dr. Eric Haughton in 1971. It was developed by Eric and Michael Maloney as classroom consultants in a public school district setting. Attempts to implement this model within these schools met with stiff, continuous resistance and ultimately led to our abandoning not only our efforts, but the entire field of public education. The Model was then successfully implemented at QLC, our private school and then taught to other practitioners across North America. It continues to grow slowly.

The relative size of each component of the chart corresponds to the approximate amount of time dedicated to that activity. As expected, practice takes the lion's share of time (50%-60% of the total).Once the Model was established, we added proven methods for each component.

"Mr. Maloney paints a rather dark picture of the realities of public education. However, TEACH YOUR CHILDREN WELL sheds a much-needed light in the darkness. It is a "must read" for parents, teachers, education administrators and government education workers".
