Kim Goodberry works at Pathways to Independence, Habitat for Humanity and the Salvation Army as a cleaner. He enjoys meeting with Jann Fisher twice a week for his Teach Your Children Well reading program. Learning to read has opened many doors for Kim. He now rides the city bus on his own, orders what he wants from a menu and lives independently!

In this year's annual report for Pathways to Independence, one of our clients is proudly referred to as a "Reading Monster." The article reads as follows:
The Pathways Foundation does not intentionally create monsters. In fact we take great pride in providing financial assistance to individuals and organizations to enhance the quality of life of people with developmental challenges, acquired brain injury and those who may be dually diagnosed.
However, it would appear that some of our employees may not agree with us!
In 2007, Kim Goodberry started a reading program with QLC Educational Services in Belleville, Ontario, Michael's learning centre. At the time, Kim was in his early forties and couldn't read a menu in a restaurant. With financial support from the foundation, and tremendous assistance from Pathways employees, Kim has been working very hard to improve his reading skills and is doing very well.
Based on Kim's success, the marked change in his perspective on life and day to day behaviour, the Foundation supported a proposal to help an additional five adults to attend the QLC literacy program.
