• Say to the student. Turn to Lesson 1 on page 1 of your reader. Check to make sure the student has the correct page.
• Find the words in Box 1. The words in this box have an underlined sound. That underlined sound is ooo as in fool.
• Touch the first word in Box 1. Read the underlined sound.
• Ready. Signal. Student says, ooo.
• Now read that word by yourself.
• Ready. Signal. Student reads, loon.
• Say, Good reading. Next word. Read the underlined sound.
• Ready. Signal. Students says, ooo.
• What's the word?
• Ready. Signal. Student says, spoon.
• Next word. Read the underlined sound.
• Ready. Signal. Student says, ooo.
• Now read that word.

• Repeat for the rest of the words in Box 1 - bloom, moon, boots, cartoons, balloon, stool, soon.

LESSON 1

• Say to the student. Put your finger on Box 2. Check to see that the student has his/her finger on the correct box. Say, There is an icon of a dictionary (point to the icon) in this Box. Whenever you see this icon, it means that you are going to learn some meanings for six words. You will see the six words in the story you are going to read. Touch the first word. Read that word.
• Ready. Signal. Student reads, shovel.
• A shovel is a digging tool. What is a shovel?
• Ready. Signal. Student responds, a digging tool.
• Read the word under shovel.
• Ready. Signal. Student reads, carefully.
• Carefully means done with thought and effort. What does carefully mean?

Correction Procedure
If the student does not correctly identify the sound, model the sound for the student. Then say it with the student (lead). Finally, have the student say it on his/her own (test). Then repeat the TASK from the beginning.
If the student makes a mistake reading a word, have him/her sound the word out. Then repeat the TASK from the beginning,
